You only need two brushes

Make up brushes are very important. I would rather use my fingers than a rough, cheap brush from the flea market or local store. In fact, in many cases I just opt for my fingers instead of a brush. I really don't think super cheap brushes should ever come in contact with our faces, let alone our VERY sensitive eye area. I hate the idea of those brushes being given to very young girls as there first introduction to make up. I'm not saying mothers should go out and buy super expensive face brushes for their little girls so they can play dress up. However, I do think we should seriously reconsider purchasing those shapeless, bristle brushes available super cheap at many stores. It's easier to use a cheap eye-shadow with a good brush than it is to use a good eye-shadow with a cheap brush. Make up should look smooth and blended - Also known as, N A T U R A L. This can be achieved with the right products, right technique and right tools. Brushes are essential for eye make up and contouring in particular. You can always apply liquid foundation and lip products with your fingers and powder with the little puff that comes along with it. However, when it comes to eye-shadow, bronzer and blush you really should invest in some brushes. In my opinion, in the worst case scenario you can get away with owning just two make up brushes. Of course in the perfect world you own a million different type of brushes, but you really can go far with these two:

MAC 217

This brush is perfect for almost all things related to eye make up. Of course other brushes such as small stiff ones and flat ones function better for some aspects, this brush is such an all purpose product it isn't even funny! It's main purpose is blending, but it pads on colour beautifully. Tapered brushes are multi-functional by nature, they allow you to decide the application. By pressing very lightly you can be more precise. Use the brush for padding colour on the lid, blending in the crease and applying a light colour under the arch of the brow. If I am in a rush or travelling with no room for make up I just grab this brush. It can be used for everything and on my laziest days I only reach for it. In a perfect world you have two brushes, one that you use for light colours and one for dark. Of course you don't need to go out and get a 217 from MAC - Many brands make similar dupes. It's this size and tapered shape that you want to go for!

SIGMA F25

Similar to the MAC 217, this significantly bigger brush is VERY tapered. Tapered brushes are essential. Again, you don't need this specific brand although I personally recommend it. This brush is very big and soft, but you can be very precise while applying make up with it, depending how lightly you press the brush against your skin. If you are very gentle you can use the tip of the brush to apply highlight to the cheekbone, you can also use it for bronzer and blush - It's perfect. Moreover, I love using this brush for powder as well if I want slightly less coverage. The tapered edge and good quality bristles blend almost anything. You can apply way too much bronzer and still manage to even it out pretty well. You have the control and can create the look you want. These two brushes can create an entire look, and it will look very professional. You don't even need much technique to be able to use them, just take your time if you are unsure. I would recommend everyone to ditch the 30 cheap, rough brushes you already have and instead invest in good quality brushes. If you can't fork out the money for a whole set of brushes, then I would opt for these key brushes. They will change your life!
